Taxes: Shifting the Burden
As taxpayers, we each help support the legacy of America's mustangs, however we may not have much control over what we get for our money or how it is put to use. By supporting non-profit efforts such as the Mustang Heritage Foundation, you help alleviate the tax burden on all Americans by shifting responsibility, funding and accountability into the private sector. The more horses that are adopted and homed by private individuals, the fewer that need to be supported by taxpayers in government holding facilities. By becoming an active supporter of this grassroots effort you also find a voice, speaking for the thousands of Mustangs that cannot speak for themselves.
Impact the Environment
The effect that the more than 36,000 free-roaming wild horses and burros on BLM managed rangelands has a devastating effect on the balance of public rangeland resources and uses. It is estimated that there are 9,400 Mustangs too many for there to be an adequate balance in existence.
Wild horses and burros have virtually no natural predators and their herd sizes can double about every four years. As a result, the BLM must remove thousands of animals from the range each year to control herd sizes. As of the latest data compiled in February of 2009, there are approximately 32,200 horses and 3,800 burros roaming on rangelands in 10 Western states.
With the Green effort sweeping the nation, we are all concerned with the environment and the use of our current natural resources. Becoming a member of Mustang Nation allows you to help in this effort by controlling the population of wild Mustangs as well as supporting public awareness through education, increasing gentling and training programs, funding training scholarships and providing adoption assistance.
